Think Valderrama in Spain and you are automatically fantasising about being a member of the 1997 Ryder Cup teams. Situated about 1 ½ hours from Malaga near the border with Gibraltar its Mediterranean climate is perfect for all year golf.
Re-designed in 1987 by golf architect Robert Trent Jones this par 71 championship course is a 6356 yards of playing delight. Ranked the #1 course in mainland Europe since 1989 for obvious reasons, a pedigree just doesn’t come any better.

Originally designed in 1974 Valderrama makes excellent use of its natural Andalucian surroundings, the course has extensive copses of Cork Oak and Olive trees and many nature sanctuaries as an environmental addition to the course. These bramble filled mini gardens of Eden provide both excellent golfing challenges and perfect animal habitats.
Extensive remodelling undertaken in 1987 included much needed drainage, this now makes Valderrama less liable to water logging than most courses in the area. With some 80 well placed bunkers, many well established groves of olives and oak and the occasional water hazard it is ever likely this course appeals so much to the professional player.
Softly rolling hills, with well maintained grassy fairways and expertly tended greens belie the fact that its luscious green oasis around the course provided unrecoverable problems to any wayward golfer.
Visiting golfers traditionally tend to stay in the coastal town of Sotogrande where there are many luxurious hotels in which to stay. Here you can sample Andalucia and see what this Mediterranean coastline has to offer visitors.
