At 7,009 yards in length and par 72, Dalat Palace golf club is an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all levels and i perfect if you’re planning to play a bit of golf when you visit Dalat. Low Handicap golfers will be tested by a series of lakes, which meander through ten of eighteen holes, as well as strategically placed bunkers, which penalize the miscalculating risk-taker. Dalat Palace Golf Club is one the better designs on all of Vietnam golf.
Novice Vietnam golfers will find relief with large accommodating greens normally left open run-up approach shots, as well as wide, forgiving fairways. The clubhouse has been fully restored with a full pro shop, restaurant, wood burring fireplace and outdoor patio areas. The clubhouse restaurant offers both superb Vietnamese and International cuisine. A full practice facility complements the golf course and clubhouse, with a 290-yard grass driving range, a putting green, and practice bunkers. Surveys in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007 by Golf Digest ranked the Dalat Palace Golf Club as the top course in Vietnam.
SAM Tuyen Lam Golf Club is 15 kilometers from Dalat City. The Dalat golf course was locally designed and sits in a deep valley. It is located on the eastern shores of the Tuyen Lam Lake and is surrounded by large mountains and lush pine forests; which makes for excellent scenery and year round cooling temperatures. Beware however of the morning fog which covers the golf course on most days until 9-10AM.
Many of the holes play from elevated tees to tight fairways. Drivers can be kept in the bag in most cases as accuracy over distance is favored at SAM Tuyen Lam Golf Club. Greens are well guarded with gentle slopes and feature all Bent grass.
Hole #3 of Sacom Tuyen Lam Golf Club is an uphill tight dogleg right. Out-of-bounds flanks the right side and the green is fronted by a large bunker and small creek that bisects the fairway. The second shot is among the most challenging at Sacom Golf Club. Most golfers go for it, but end up in the creek short or OB right of the green. Take 1-2 extra clubs as there is ample room over the green to get down for par.
Another memorable hole of Sacom Tuyen Lam Golf Club is the par-4 hole 12. Playing as a dogleg right and severely uphill, there is a high bunker crossing the fairway 200 yards from the teeing area. A huge drive that carries 240 yards or more is required to clear the hazard; otherwise a layup to around 180 yards is a much safer play. Also, the whole right side is framed by a vertical rock wall that was cutout of the mountain to build the hole. Hit to this side and the ball will ricochet off the Rick and back into the fairway. To make matters more complicated the green is double level and guarded by bunkers on both sides. Putting follows the slope of the surrounding mountains. It is such a difficult hole that bogey is a good score.
The natural landscape and course layout of The Dalat at 1200 Country Club makes use of native Pine trees, small streams, lakes, and waterfalls that meander through the holes. Additional local flowers and bushes have been planted to frame each hole and provide unique challenges. Each old provides the scenic views.
The holes have long green to tee distances and significant elevation changes between them, so golf carts are mandatory even for golf professionals.
